Professional Organizer, Wilmington NC

Teen girls and their clothing are a whole THING. I think they might be the demographic that feels the most pressure when it comes to dressing for success. This is all the more reason to equip them with a closet that makes them feel confident and organized.

What I walked into, was a closet that was filled to the brim on the racks and the shelves. Sweaters were literally crammed into any free space possible. The closet system itself showed promise, providing 3 sections of racks and several shelves. The client already had a functioning over-the-door shoe bag. Some of the framework was there, she just needed an expert.

That’s where the professional organizer stepped in.

We started with the racks. Every single piece of clothing and accessory came out of the closet. The decision was made to keep, sell, or donate. I appreciated the decisiveness of this bright young lady. Look at all the clothing she parted with!

All the keepers were properly folded or rolled. I came up with key solutions for fitting what she decided to keep into a closet of this size. That did involve relocating a few things to under-the-bed storage. Sweaters are bulky, and therefore take up a lot of space. Two boxes of sweaters were designated for under-the-bed and stored there.

Key organizing solutions for all categories.

There is no great way to store items on the shelves of this closet without something to contain. I measured the shelving and created a shopping list for bins, among a few other things. We found the PERFECT bins at Target! I’ll share the link at the end in case you’re interested.

  • T-shirts were folded into 4ths and placed in a bin, positioned like files.
  • Sweatshirts were rolled and placed in a bin, positioned on one end so that each is visible from the top.
  • Hats and purses found their homes in open-front bins on a high shelf.

When you don’t have drawers to organize your closet, bins will suffice!

And sometimes, bins are even better as they can be pulled out. Check out how clean and organized this looks.

After we finished the shelves, we moved on to shoes.

There were shoes in the shoe rack, shoes hiding under piles on the floor in the closet, and shoes in the bedroom. The challenge was to edit her shoe selection to what would fit in the over-the-door rack AND she could keep a few off-season and special occasion pairs in the top of her closet. She made it happen!

Matching hangers are one of the best organization upgrades you can gift yourself.

After the shelves and shoes came the racks. The client and I went through every single piece of clothing hanging in the closet. Decisions were made, hangers were swapped, clothing was organized by type and color. Everything she wanted to keep FIT nicely.

Now for the side by side closet organizing transformation.
