Episode 2 – How to Create Pantry Zones

If dinnertime feels like a scavenger hunt, you’re not alone. With all that life requires of our schedules, keeping the pantry in order often falls to the bottom of the to-do list. But here’s the good news: a well-organized pantry is completely doable. It starts with creating zones.

In Episode 2 of Pantry Tips, I walk you through how easy it is to create zones while showing you the zones in my own pantry. Watch the full video below.

What Are Pantry Zones, and Why Do They Matter?

Pantry zones are designated areas for specific types of food or kitchen essentials. Zoning helps streamline your grocery routine, reduce waste, and make meal prep faster (and a lot less stressful).

Here’s how to set up zones in your own pantry:

1. Group by Category

Start by removing everything from your pantry. Then, group items into categories like:

  • Snacks
  • Breakfast Items
  • Canned Goods
  • Baking Supplies
  • Grains and pasta
  • Dinner staples
  • Condiments & sauces

This step helps you see what you have- and what you don’t need more of.

2. Designate Your Zones

Once you’ve sorted your items, assign them to specific shelves or bins. Keep frequently used items at eye level and kid-friendly snacks on lower shelves where little hands can reach.

3. Contain and Label

Use clear bins, baskets, and turntables to keep each zone contained and clutter-free. Add labels so everyone in the house knows where things go.

4. Maintain the System

A little maintenance goes a long way. Once a week, do a quick tidy-up to keep your zones working smoothly.
