Simple Kitchen Organization

Kitchens are at the top of the list for the most used spaces in the home. With a family of 5, I spend about 60-75% of my waking time at home in this spot!  How much time would you guess you spend in the kitchen?

I believe it is essential to a peaceful home environment to have a clutter-free kitchen. Let me clarify:  This does not mean the sink is always empty.  This does not mean your kitchen has to look like one of a model home or one you’ve seen in a magazine.  You do live in your house!  What a clutter-free kitchen does mean is very simple:  There is a “flow” to kitchen activities and items are stored where they make sense in the “flow.”  Everything has a place to live.  And, after it is used it is returned to its home.

I had the opportunity to work on two kitchens in January, and weeks later the clients are both still beaming with excitement in the new simplicity of their kitchen flow and storage.  The counter tops are staying nice and clear too!

I have permission to share one of those kitchens with you!  We went through the cabinets first (and took everything out), reorganized the flow, and found “homes” for anything that did not belong on the countertops.  Save those kitchen countertops for kitchen work!  Only store a few essentials on top, and make them look nice too 🙂

Enjoy the pictures!
